International Theatre Workshops |
Introduction to Thai Massage with Alice Coghlan |
In a relaxed and peaceful setting, these two evening workshops will demonstrate some of the principals of Thai massage, with particular
regard to the neck, head and back areas. After a brief demonstration participants will work in pairs and will have the opportunity to be
both a giver and receiver of massage, under the eyes of the instructor. The workshop will aim to ground students in two of the five 'stages'
of Thai Massage.
Thai massage is very different in concept to the 'kneading' western styles of massage. This ancient eastern art involves massaging the lines of the body with your feet, knees, hands and elbows and various yoga style stretches, and the receiver often falls into a deep and relaxing doze as tension and toxins are released. It is especially useful to actors and theatre practitioners, as it equips them with techniques to ease the bodily strains and stresses, in both themselves and others that are something of an occupational hazard. Alice qualified as a professional Thai Masseur at Wat Po, Bangkok's premier Massage Academy whilst working as a theatre director in Thailand in 2004. She often gives massages during rehearsals! |
